Hi friends! Hope you are having a lovely Monday! Let me just recap that I have a wonderful Autumn Home Tour Blog series up on the blog which you can check out HERE and it is a good one friends!
Okay, back to business! Lets preface this post by: I am not a skin or oil specialist.. this is simply something that works for me and honestly, the Canadian fall and winter are so dry that I have had to figure out what works for my skin. I have tried mostly mid ranged drug store products - not the high end stuff, and it just never worked. Or it didn't do what it said it would do, like help with dry spots (trust me, I get TONS of those.. in fact I developed eczema in the past 4-5 years because of the weather) or give you that fresh look. Nope.. just did not work! So I went my own way because.. lets be honest.. I am not going to spend $80 on a cream to try it on for a month to see if it actually works.
A friend introduced me to essential oils, specifically Rose Hip Oil [Sumo and Feef's, you know thats you ;)] about 5-6 years ago.. and I went to the local health store and picked it up. I was struggling with MAJOR bags and discolouration at that point and heck I was 23 or 24. I started using Rose Hip oil (can't remember the brand, but it was just pure rose hip oil) daily before sleeping and would apply it to my washed face around my eyes. And I remember, my skin completely changed! It was more evened out in skin tone and it definitely felt more.. supple (if thats the right word). I was so happy! But the rest of my face wasn't happy with the body shop night moisturizer I was using.
I had travelled to Morocco in 2009 and Argan Oil was not a thing back then.. but the trees are native to Morocco and when I was there I had heard a great deal about it being good for hair and skin and being called "Liquid Gold" - fast forward a couple of years later, I bought myself a small bottle and started mixing that in equal parts with Rose Hip Oil and applying that all over my face. I later added Jojoba oil because another friend told me about it and that it pairs well with Rose Hip Oil. I am not expert on the oils and their properties.. so I kind of just went with the oil mixing and applying journey. Until baby girl happened about 17 months ago and this mama just did not have time! But part of self care and re calibrating [you can read that HERE] is making time for ME. So thanks to Amazon Prime, I found this new company Art Naturals (they didn't sponsor me - I found them on my search and paid for their products) and so far their price point for the oils above is AMAZING!
So essentially, I take all THREE of these oils and mix them in a an amber glass bottle with a dropper (see below for aff links) and then I wash my face with my regular cleanser (I use Cetaphil face wash in case you were wondering.. low maintenance in inexpensive and does the job great!) and I put on 4-5 drops of my oil mixture and gently massage it into my skin before sleeping. I kid you not, you will wake up in the middle of the night and your face will feel like a million dollars in the morning. I also wash my face with my face wash in the morning and use 3-4 drops (less than what I use at night) as my morning moisturizer beneath my foundation and concealer. The trick that I found that works for me is - apply the oils in the morning and let them "set" or be absorbed into the skin while you do your hair or put on your outfit for the day. Give it 10 minutes on your skin before you start your makeup routine.
I also purchased this cute little oil diffuser from Art naturals and am using it with some of their other oils (which came as a bonus when you order the above! WIN WIN!) .
Super simple, easy to put together, an all natural, chemical free moisturizer! And these oils will easily last me until next year because the size is massive and because they are so potent, you don't need to put on a whole bunch! A few drops go a long way! You can also add them to your regular moisturizer, if applying them directly to your skin seems too intimidating - I did that in the beginning because I was so worried that putting oil on my face would make my skin oily! In fact, it is the opposite.. dry skin tends to produce more oils to compensate for the lack of moisture, and hence acne!
Anyhow.. I hope you enjoyed this post - again.. I am no expert on skin or essential oils and this is solely what worked for me. You do what works best for you, friend! Don't forget to check out my stories on Instagram and say hi on Facebook. Also see what I am pinning on Pinterest <3
