5 Stunning Primary Bedrooms with a Dark and Moody Aesthetic

DIY· Home Decor

Time for a change around here! I’ve been thinking of switching up my primary bedroom for a while now but needed inspiration for what to do differently.  My bedroom is currently very white, very bright, and very bland. So, I’ve decided to do something really different and go for a dark and moody room aesthetic, with a comfy feel.

First, I decided to look to other bloggers for inspiration. I searched for dark, moody, and comfy bedroom decor, and found so many great ideas! Here are the best primary bedrooms I found with a dark and moody aesthetic. They all played a part in my vision and final mood board. Let’s check them out!

We Painted our Bedroom Dark Brown and Couldn’t Love it More!

The first is a dark brown take on cozy. ChrislovesJulia combined a deep rich brown colour with purple undertones with black window trim, and I think it’s stunning. Julia said in her post that she “needed a break from sleeping in a white box”, and I know just how she feels! This dark room aesthetic gave out all the right vibes for what I was looking for myself.

Now, dark and moody doesn’t necessarily have to mean black walls! In her bedroom makeover post, @peonyandhoney shared how a gorgeous deep pink colour combined with dark furniture can give a cozy and moody vibe too. This was a truly beautiful standout wall color!

Moody Black Bedroom Makeover

Of course, if you’re going to search “dark and moody” bedrooms, you’re going to see a few black bedroom walls! I really wasn’t sure how I felt about this until I saw this primary bedroom makeover by LemonThistle. This dark room aesthetic features black walls, light fixtures, and warm and comfy textiles. The layering of these elements really sold me on this look!  It is hard to believe this bedroom started out so bland and beige.

Modern Cottage Guest Room

While this next room isn’t as dark, it’s another example of how pink can actually be moody if done right! I think the texture on the wall plus the dark furniture and fireplace really gives this room the right amount of moodiness to make it feel cozy, which is exactly what I was looking for in my hunt for inspiration.

Dark and Moody Bedroom Reveal

Pink and black can give a room a really dramatic feel, but @em_henderson proved that blue can be dark and moody too! I think the dark blue on these walls makes this room feel very cozy, and I just love all the gold hardware it goes perfectly with too! The feeling this room has is exactly where I’m headed with my own makeover.

Picking and choosing from these equally beautiful but oh so different inspiration pics was not easy, but I think I managed to capture the essence of all of them and stay true to my own style too. Pulling all my favourite aspects from each of these ideas helped me to create my vision.

Here’s the mood board I put together for my own bedroom! I think the trim feature on the wall, the dark and moody brown colour with purple undertones, and the dark textured furniture are all authentically me, and pull some of the very best ideas out of my inspiration posts.  What do you think?
