I can’t even with this cloud themed nursery.. I am so excited to share it with you that I am literally shaking as I type this. I have planned this nursery idea for 4 months now and it is finally complete! For this room, the inspiration was definitely from Suleiman’s namesake, Prophet Suleiman AS who is prominently mentioned in the Quran. I wanted something to encompass the wisdom and strength symbolized in the name and the theme that kept coming to mind was the Asmaan/Sky. So I went with a cloud theme for this nursery and added my favourite element in a space – a mood vibe!
Here is the original mood board where we started!
And here is the completed nursery!
Paint Colours in the Moody Cloud Themed Nursery
We started off with painting the ceiling dark (Providence Blue by Benjamin Moore) and the walls a light grey (Thundercloud Gray by Benjamin Moore). I wanted shades of blues and greys that we would see in clouds and I decided to go with a dark ceiling for that cloud/night sky effect. I also painted the hexagon shelves and the dresser the same colour as the ceiling
Cloud Mural Accent Wall in Nursery
For the main mural wall that added the cloud theme to the nursery, I created a framed mural accent wall for which you can find a full tutorial here. Initially, I had wanted to keep the sides of the mural the lighter gray colour. However, after installing the mural, I changed my mind and to create a moody cloud vibe I painted the side panels Providence Blue by Benjamin moore.
Decor and Art in the Nursery
There are a few main elements of decor in the nursery.
First is the main art piece – the custom designed and cut wooden name sign made for Suleiman by Owl Works Studio. They worked so patiently with me as I designed the room and hummed and hawed over the colours of the sign. It is truly a work of beauty and the craftsmanship is impeccable!
The second handcrafted piece is the hand woven hot air balloon mobile which I purchased from etsy. I wanted mustard and gold to be the accent colours in the room so I went with a bright yellow for the mobile. There are so many colour options and it is so beautiful! I will definitely be passing it on to Suleiman as a keepsake when he is older.
The other art in the nursery is from various sources. The Vintage car prints were a facebook marketplace find! The floral print is from Target, and the large watercolour painting (in the frame with the glare on it) along with the tiled hook are handmade by my sister!
I also incorporated some more modern prints from my friend Anam at My Inspired Home’s print shop. She generously gifted these prints to me and you can purchase them here! I framed them in thrifted frames and love how the little gallery wall moments turned out!
Other decor in the room include this little hook by the closet and that was again handmade by my sister. She made these hooks for me over 10 years ago now when she was just learned glass mosaic work! I am so glad I had them because the colours worked perfectly for this space.
The arabic letter pillow cover was a gift and also handmade but I am not sure of the source.
