Hellooo! Fun fact – as much as I despise pink, Liyana loves it. If she could have it, everything would be a shade of pink including her hair I bet. But she also loves super heroes… so when she saw her room, she loved her “super hero princess” room as she called it.

I have shared the room in tid bits on my Instagram feed last week while I was at home. The main motivation for getting this room ready for Liyana, was basically our transition back home.
Here is how I deal with transitions.
Not well… haha. And Liyana takes completely after me in this regard. All transitions with her have been hell-ish from sleep training, ditching the pacifier, potty training, ditching the bottle… you name it. They have all been hard for her. But the one thing I have learned about our child is that she does really well when transitions are scaffolded by excitement or presented to her as an opportunity. Its all about the mindset right? I mean, your perception of the situation frames your take on life, and I have seen first hand that it applies to Liyana so well. Maybe its my psychology training, or just my observations… but I have figured out how to get her to enjoy transitions.
Enter: INDEPENDENCE
So, as a three year old, she is obsessed with being independent. So in transitioning back home and into school, after 6 months in Vancouver – I have to leverage this. I sold her crib and mostly everything in her room prior to even arriving. My husband is the real MVP in all this for handling all the behind the scenes stuff. I only post the pretty pictures, but really he is the main player in this whole gig. Sachee.
I wanted the whole theme of her room to be around this concept of independence.
This montessori concept house bed by Coco Village was the perfect focal point for the room. I added on some Lill curtains from Ikea and battery operated LED lights.

Paired with pink zippered bedding by Beddy’s Beds, i think this bed is elevated to the next level. Obviously Aspen and Chloe from Cuddle and Kind have to be there – these dolls have been with Liyana for almost three years (chloe is now 3, and aspen is almost 1) and they are the bestttt quality! Easy to wash and super cuddly, and every purchase feeds 10 children. Win win for all!
Back to the room… Not only can Liyana get in and out of the bed when she wants, she can also make her own bed. Thankfully, she doesn’t really get up in the middle of the night to sneak into our bed. I think the main motivator for that is because she is in love with her room.

To add some fun pizzaz to the room, I also added these adorable paint stroke wall decals from Urban Walls (another canadian company!) . If you watched my Instagram Stories, or want to check out literally the 10 minute process to glam up your room with wall decals, go to my Instagram Story Highlights!

So, how did the transition go for us last week is what you may be wondering. I think it went really well – Liyana loved her room and immediately took to it. All she wanted to do was spend time in her room playing. She was happy to sleep in her new “super hero princess” bed, make her bed, use her bathroom and so on. I hear she is doing just as well now while I am here across the country wrapping up the last 3 weeks of a 7-year-long journey!
