Hellooo! I have finalllyy put together a blog post about the DIY Living Room Decor that was part of the makeover I did.
How many of you remember the space from before? Let us refresh our memories. It is by no means bad or unlivable, but it certainly wasn’t my style anymore.

So we decided to give the living room a makeover in true DIY fashion!
DIY Decor Idea# 1 – Custom Accent Fireplace
First, we built this accent fireplace that was truly a labour of love. It is the main DIY in this living room makeover, and adds so much interest and character to this space.

DIY Decor Idea # 2 – Copycat Pottery Lamp + Vase
Another fun DIY decor idea in this living room makeover has been this copycat pottery lamp that I made from a thrifted vase! I have a full tutorial for that here.

I loved this little DIY so much, that I even made over a boring glass vase to have the same black pottery look!
DIY Decor Idea # 3 – Easy Art Ledge in under $20

I think all of these DIY’s in this were important in this makeover.
But, the most important thing that made this living room makeover come together was this beautiful sofa.
Now, the main issue with this living room and the overall makeover was the seating. The room is an odd rectangle shape with no main wall to lean a sofa against and previously we had an oversized sectional that blocked off most of the room. We also had a pretty large sized recliner in addition to the sofa, as my mother-in-law needs that for support for legs. We had had these pieces of furniture for about 8 years and they were at the end of their life, to be honest.
So, when this DIY living room makeover started, my biggest trepidation was always about finding THE couch. We are a family of 4 adults and a rambunctious toddler. This means that our requirements for a couch are pretty expansive. We need something comfortable in fabric AND large enough that can seat all of us WITHOUT being too bulky. We also needed something possibly with a built in recliner. And heres the catch 22: the recliner could NOT be one with a push down lever. Also, not to mention that leather couches were a no go given we also have a cat, and i just don’t love the look.
This couch hunt was probably the most daunting task of this whole living room makeover. The fireplace DIY – easy! Finding the perfect couch that fit ALL those criteria seems IMPOSSIBLE. I shared this with my audience on Instagram and put out a question box asking for recommendations for stores where I could start my unicorn couch hunt.
A few of you actually reccomended Mobilia as a great place to start when going on this unicorn couch hunt.
Enter the Emilia Reclining Sectional Sofa from Mobilia. It truly is the unicorn couch I have been searching for. It is made out of this beautiful, stain resistant fabric with inclined, high-density foam padded seats. It comes in a beautiful blue and a gray option with both right and left- facing arms. It is the perfect size for my space and provides the right amount of seating, without closing off the room. And most importantly, it has an electric reclining sectional!! Theres in fact even built in USB ports that let me charge my phone easily while I am lounging on the couch. I mean, that is like delivering the cake with a bow on top, am I right?

You can see how gorgeous this couch is. I opted for the right facing sectional in a gray colour.
We have now tested the Emilia Reclining Sectional Sofa for over a month, and it has honestly been incredible!! I could not recommend it more, and quite honestly I will be getting the same couch again when this one is old. I love it that much!

So.. what do you think? I think this space turned out really nice and is beautiful and functional space for our family!
