Hellooo friends <3
I hope this post finds you well! I am so excited to bring this post to you sharing an old tradition, snail mail, that we have brought back into our lives. Who remembers the days of actual snail mail, where there was little/limited access to email and we would write hand written letters? Or even passed hand written notes in class, because text messaging was too dang expensive? I remember those days all too well.. and I MISS THEM!
Now it seems like, our lives are inundated with technology at every turn (like this blog… yes I get the full irony of this) and we struggle with disconnecting. We struggle with disconnecting to have meaningful connection with those who share the same roof with us. Sometimes that looks like sending text messages rather than walking up a flight of stairs and other times it looks like the endless vortex of mindless scrolling.
My husband and I lived apart for a year, before we were married. He moved to Brazil for his first job ever and there was a 3-4 hour time difference at any point of the year. Cell phone plans in Brazil were not for the faint-hearted and Skype was a brand new thing, so the connections were not great. So we would write letters to each other. Im not talking love letters.. I am talking letters twice a week (mostly from me.. his were like once a month haha) with simple, mundane details. What happened that week.. what we were up to… simple memories we wanted to remember. I kid you not, every time a letter would come in the mail, it would make my day!
When thinking of what kind of family traditions I wanted for when we had a child, I knew snail mail HAD to be incorporated into the picture somehow. Enter… Personalized Eid Cards. I know, I know. Everyone does these at holidays (read: Christmas). But we don’t celebrate Christmas. Hence, on Eid since my daughters first Eid, we have been dilligently getting annual family pictures taken and then we get Eid Cards printed and I sit and fill them with more than just “Eid Mubarak” and I walk over the mail box, with a satisfied warm fuzzy feeling, and drop them off. Its the simple things in life, that can sometimes bring you the the deepest feelings of gratitude.
This year, I chose to order Eid cards from Minted with one of my favourite photo’s from our Flytographer photoshoot in the Amalfi Coast, by the talented Barbara and Claudio.
Minted is a unique marketplace that brings you designs created by independent artists, that you will not find anywhere else. They offer a fast turn around with amazing customer service and shipping. From start to finish, the process of ordering. proofing, shipping and arriving to my house, these cards took 6 days!
This particular design is part of the Minted Eid Design Collection, with free address personalization to match your custom cards.
I think they turned out beuatifully, and I am ready to personalize them with messages for our close family and friends.
Do you have an Eid tradition you like to carry forward with your family? Or one that you created? Share with me and other’s in the comments – I love hearing from you sweet friends!
Until next time,
Hugs!
