Welcome to my guest room makeover! For this room I was going for a modern boho farmhouse-y look, if you know what i mean? I knew I wanted an accent wall… but not just dark paint or shiplap. I wanted something different and unexpected.
ENTER WALL PAPER!
When someone says wallpaper, I think of old fashioned floral print wallpaper. I don’t think immediately of a glamorous guest room makeover. Well, Milton and King makes these stunning wallpapers that are SO far from the wallpaper trends from back in the day, that they will have you doing a double take! Honestly, doesn’t this wallpaper look like I painted this pattern on the wall and spent hours doing so? The answer is NO!! We spent a total of two hours putting this wall paper up and it was actually one of the easiest projects I have done so far.
I used the Heritage Tile wallpaper available HERE – I used a total of two rolls for the accent wall in the guest room. There is a handy calculator on the Milton and King Website that helps you calculate how many rolls of wallpaper to order.
For specific instructions on how to install wallpaper, Milton and King has a fabulous tutorial on their website and we followed that down to the T! You can find all the details for installation and care of your Milton and King Wallpaper HERE.
So here it is! The new guest room in all its modern boho farmhouse glory!
You can also see how I used the antique school desks that I recently refurbished HERE, as the perfect night stand. The room is not that large, so we only realistically needed one “table” surface for a lamp and for guests to set down their things and these desks were the perfect piece of furniture for exactly that! I love using unexpected items to create function and interest in a room. Also needless to say, buying old pieces from garage sales and thrift stores and giving them a facelift using paint is much more cost effective than splurging at least $100 a piece on a night stand, that realistically gets only used a few times a year. So win win for all!
To add the perfect touch to the guest room, I hand made this bed table that I will share a tutorial for very soon!
I wanted to break up the pattern a bit above the bed and to also draw the eye in. I did so by adding in these free mosque printable set created in collaboration between Naseeba of Illustrating NK and Sidra of Sidra and Co (Click HERE to get yours!). I just fell in love with these when I stumbled across them and love the unexpected monochromatic look they add amongst all the colour and pattern. And the gold frames just bring it all together to create this modern boho farmhouse look that I was going for in this room!
