Hello! Welcome to my page and my very first blog post. I am so excited to be sharing details of a very special event I had the privilege of hosting in August 2015. The idea of a blog has been percolating since then, and finally in 2017, I am ready to share it all with you.
I hosted this bridal shower, along with other bridesmaids, for a very special friend, who loves tea and everything rustic. So, obviously, it was no surprise when she requested that these elements be incorporated into her special day. The theme was simple – an afternoon tea filled with a delectable spread sprinkled with floral and rustic elements.
The most important detail of any event, especially one like a shower (baby or bridal), is the cake. It is the culmination of your decor and it is what the special someone will remember the most. How did it look? What did it taste like? What elements of the theme were incorporated into it? When you will look back, one of the first things that you will remember is the cake. Given this, we opted for a classic vanilla cake with strawberry cream. Aesthetically, the cake was going to be rustic and nothing says “rustic” like a naked cake adorned with fresh flowers. Farena of Indulge Desserts brought this vision to life and made a breathtakingly beautiful and even more delicious work of art.
Next up on what makes an event successful, is what goes in your guests belly! The perfect afternoon tea spread in our case consisted of apple roses , spinach bites, chocolate covered strawberries, caprese salad skewers and cucumber finger sandwiches. The theme of the food was really, easy to eat finger food. We also served scones, shortbread cookies and fruit (not pictured here).
Heres the zoomed out shot of the table where we served the food and which also served as the focal point of the decor. The backdrop is against a window, which wasn’t ideal, but really the only space we had to work with. We layered multiple table clothes to create texture on the table, and let the food be the decor. The backdrop with tassel garland is put up against bifold doors that i picked up while out junkin’. The horizontal garlands, are another DIY that I will share soon – but are essentially pink circles and doilies strung on a ribbon alternately. The Bride-to-Be banner in the front of the table was something custom that my sister made for the event.
To quench our guest’s thirst given that it was a hot summer day, we had also set up a water drink station, where guests could sip fruit infused water in dainty bottles (a DIY, I will share soon).
And what tea party is complete without a tea station adorned with dainty tea cups and saucers, right?

Needless to say, the bride-to-be loved every detail, which made hosting the event so much more memorable!
With a bit of planning, this shower was super easy and fun to host and needless to say, without the effort of the other bridesmaids wouldn’t have been possible! I hope this inspires you to host your very own afternoon tea, even if its just for your girlfriends.
