Salam friends!!
Where is Prince Edward County?
Prince Edward County (PEC) is an island on the north shore of Lake Ontario. It is made up of several small towns, including Bellville, Wellington and Picton. We chose to stay in a cottage in Picton because it’s close to Sandbanks Provincial Park.
Where is the Best Place To Stay in Prince Edward County?
If you’re planning to rent an apartment, house or Airbnb, you need to book in advance. I booked a 2 bedroom house in May for the Canada Day long weekend. This was the only option available since I was late to the game. Yes, if you’re a spur of the moment traveller, you may struggle to find a place to stay here. The place we stayed in was located in the centre of Picton, off of main street, called Stone Carriage House. I booked via booking.com which is my go-to site when we travel – no, they didn’t sponsor this post, but if they’re reading this then we should totally work together – I love to travel!
What to do in Prince Edward County?
Sandbanks Provincial Park: If you’re in Picton, add this to your must-do list. Once you’re admitted into the park, follow the signs to Dunes Beach. The views are stunning! My #1 tip for visiting Sandbanks Provincial Park? Go early. Our rental included a permit to the park which gave us priority access, so we didn’t have to wait in line for long. At 9AM, we entered the park with our cooler of food and toys in hand… but unfortunately, it was a scorching 47 degrees that day, so we decided to leave a couple of hours later. Side note: We noticed while leaving at 10:45AM that even the priority check-in line was aKilometre long!

Visit Slickers
Known for the best Pure Handmade County Ice Cream, it did not disappoint. I ordered “County Bounty” and “This is Nuts” – both were SO good! The serving size is massive… but it’s ice cream and I can’t say “no” to ice cream!
PEC Lavender Fields
Are you a Lavender Connoisseur? I would highly recommend staying at the bed and breakfast INSIDE the lavender farm. Yes…. Inside! I didn’t plan far enough in advance to get this spot, but when we go back to Prince Edward County, this is where I plan to stay.
Tips for Travelling on a Budget with Kids
I was travelling with my father-in-law, husband and our 2 year old daughter. To make this trip budget friendly, we knew we needed to rent a space that had a kitchen so we could cook our meals. We brought:
- Pre-marinated Meat
- Portable BBQ
- Breakfast items that we used to create our own daily Continental Breakfast
- Lots of kid snacks
Having a stash of favourite snacks for our daughter, and cooking all of our meals made it possible for us to eat the foods we love and save a ton of money. That said, if budget isn’t an issue for you, PEC is a foodie’s heaven!
There you have it, friends! I hope this helps you plan your trip to Prince Edward County! Now tell me in the comments below, have you been to PEC? What was the highlight of your visit?
Update: Tips for Travelling to Prince Edward County during COVID-19
My husband and I recently went to Prince Edward County during COVID. We stayed at the Harrington House, which is much closer to the marina. We booked this through Booking.com and it was a great property that adhered to all COVID-19 rules and restrictions. We were also able to enjoy dinners at two patios and walk around town. It all felt very safe, and every indoor store required a mask. We both felt safe and I would highly recommend visiting.
Until next time!
