Hi friends! Happyyy Friday and Jummah Mubarak <3
I haven’t done one of these posts in a while but I am feeling like I can write you a quick post about what has been happening in my life these last few weeks and what I have been working on.
My friend Rhiannon over at Rhiannon Bosse posted a wonderful thought on Instagram this past week.. she said that in order to have a clean and organized home, try keeping only the things you love and have a place for everything. Its so simple right? just keep the things you love and have a place for each item! This simple simple thought has really been circulating through my mind this whole week since I read it. It made me re-evaluate all the CRAP (not stuff I love) that is inside cabinets you see. This CRAP (I am just going to call it that.. because all material things are just crap..) is stuff I have bought, accumulated over the past three years of being in this home. I have talked about simplifying my decor quite a bit as a goal for this year, but Rhi’s message about “having a place for everything” really stuck with me.
This past week, I went on a cleaning spree. I took out ALL the decor that I actively use (not counting seasonal flowers I switch out.. these I love), and I just started to think about what are the items that have a place on whatever X shelf/vignette and would I be happy with them there ALL year if it came to that? I mean.. I have a ton of stuff.. and I’ve been on a shopping freeze since December, so this was really helpful. I realized I have a bunch of things to give away – but it also made me realize, that I tend to buy things I can use multiple times… which is a great thing! If you are struggling with keeping up with the home decor world on Instagram, like how I was, and feeling inadequate or less than because your home is not filled with the newest and latest decor trend, try to focus on simplicity. Most of the time LESS is MORE. I mean, in my process of cleaning out all my decor pieces this past week, I learnt that I can just re use everything I have to refresh my home for ZERO dollars by simply pairing things differently. And that way, I am not hoarding things in my closets, but everything has a place outside of collecting dust on a shelf. My basement, which is my project for this weekend, is a WHOLE other story. My decor style was very different in our old home.. so most of that stuff is in boxes downstairs. EEP… not looking forward to that reorganization haha!
Talking about reorganization and organization, if you missed it, the first part of the my organization series is on the blog HERE. It was by far the most popular blog post in the history of Mint Candy Designs.. so I am going to take it as you all love reading more about me as a person in addition to home decor 😉 part two of the series will come next week and was delayed this week given some PhD deadlines.
Next… the BIG day for me is next friday march 23rd, when I find out my fate for the next academic year in terms of internship! I get notified 10 am EST about whether I obtained a position or not from all the interviews I was going in January and WHERE I will be moving or not!! So stay tuned for the big news. In the event I don’t get a position, the cycle of applying, interviewing etc will start again.. but whatever the case may be, I will share it with you guys because you have been part of this whole journey with me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support, love and kind wishes!
Thats all I have for now, but stay tuned for some fun projects this weekend and two posts next week! the first I talked about above, and the second is a secret 😉
Hugs!!
