I DIY’ed that! A Holiday Blog Hop Series!

DIY· Seasonal Home Tours

Hello friends!

Welcome to Mint Candy Designs! If you are coming over from my sweet friend Amy's page over at Cuter Tudor, welcome! weren't her DIY snow globes just the most precious?!?! Since, I have you in the snow globe mood, I think you may like whats down below ๐Ÿ˜‰

As many of you already know, as a Muslim, I do not celebrate christmas but definitely love all the holiday vibe and beauty the season brings. And ofcourse, I am a HUGE snow person - I mean I grew up in a country (Pakistan) where snow is no where to be seen and the coldest it gets in the winter is a balmy 15-20 degrees celcius. So.. I love snow! I mean, frost bite and all, I live for the winter and the snow. So, my blog post today is about how I brought in the snow into our house without flooding it ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wanted to create a winter wonderland scene across the house - I did a similar thing in the front entryway, which you can see and read about HEREย -ย And I wanted to bring in a similar vibe in to the home and especially in our dining room, which I shared yesterday HERE.ย ย So since shelf space is limited around here, I decided to do something fun with the buffet in the dining room. I added a cotton wreath to my DIY framed faux shiplap (quick easy peasy tutorial HERE for you) and added a chalkboard snow flake between it to kind of mimic poofy snow (I know I am super strange.. stay with me friend, stay with me).

Then down below it, I wanted to add in lots of glass to recreate a vignette that would metophorically equivalent to shiny ice crystals and glistenning snow.. (are you with me still?) - To do this, I used these reproduction vintage seltzer bottles from Michaels (they were marked down to $2 each!! I bought them all and have no shame in admitting it ๐Ÿ˜€ ) and vintage mason jars.

Within the vintage mason jars, I created these mini winter landscapes, almost like faux snow globes, but without the fake snow (I used epsom salts ๐Ÿ˜‰ cheap snow hack which is not wasteful) and these silver brush trees from the dollar store.

I also threw in some pine cones into a few epsom salt filled mason jars, to mimic the look of pinecones on snow.. and added sprigs of winter greenery around.ย ย

I mean it was all a super simple way to decorate, inexpensive and allowed me to get creative with what I already own. The only "new" purchases for this decor were the seltzer bottles. Everything else was either purchased for another season and has been seen else where in my home previously or I have collected over time (like vintage mason jars, corbels, books, faux greenery, runner)

I mean, I am all about simplicity and in a way reducing waste and mindless buying. I work with a tight budget (usually a hundred dollars) for seasonal decor and I aim to spend it wisely so my next hundred bucks in the next season will stretch further - and using things I already own lets me do that!

I hope this inspired you to decorate for winter in your home - because it doesn't need all that much ๐Ÿ™‚

I love these snow globes! You brought the perfect amount of “snow” into your house! By the way, I would trade you places any day in the snow arena. I hate snow ๐Ÿ™‚ And I live in state that has like 9 months of Winter lol
