Hello friends and happy Tuesday! Lets just say I am so happy that Monday is OVER! Baby girl has decided that it is time for the 18 month sleep regression.. a week early than the actual 18 month date (I mean... I am to blame for her punctuality, right..) and hence Monday was brought to you by Starbucks.
Anyhow, I am so excited to share this awesome project in collaboration with Country Chic Paint that has truly given our master bedroom a new look! Its amazing how a little paint (literally, I used a quarter of a quart.. whatever that is in math hehe) can go a LONG way in a bedroom refresh! These are the bed side tables that I wanted to refresh. When I purchased them, I liked them.. but over time I have started to dislike the yellow tone in the colour. And I am not one to just go buy new furniture at a whim.. so painting them was an affordable option! And if you have been following me on social media, you know that I love me some good paint to bring back something old to new life all staying in my budget!
But recently, I have fallen out of love with the chalk paints that are available in Home Depot or your local hardware. I have tried all the brands sold at Home Depot or other hardware stores, made my own version or even bought ready-t0-mix chalk powders that can be mixed into paint. But nothing has met the mark thus far.. So I like to think that I have some expertise in the area of paint and the elements of that differentiate between a good and an AMAZING chalk paint product. I have broken them down below for you, in case you are interested because let me tell you guys.. you will want to try out Country Chic Paint!
A little bit more about the company - They are Canadian (YAY!) and make both chalk-based and clay-based paints. The Furniture and Home Decor Paint line is chalk-based, which means no sanding or stripping needed for whatever you are painting! I went with this line in the colour Hurricane.
Now, a little more about the paint... and why I loved it SO much!
The feel of the paint
My biggest problem with chalk paint (and also my husbands primary complaint) is that even after you apply wax on them, they don't feel smooth! And no I am not applying poly, because then why wouldn't I just use regular paint?
With Country Chic Paint's Furniture and Home Decor Paint, the finish of the paint was literally the smoothest finish I have yet to see in a chalk-based paint line! And that is a high praise given that I have literally tried them all!! Even my husband, who is not a fan of chalk paint, was incredibly impressed with the feel of the paint, even BEFORE I added any wax.
The coverage
Okay lets be real, moms have only nap time to get their projects done.. and in the past I have had to spread a project over two nap times i.e two days (GASP!) because the paint needs MULTIPLE coats (more than two is multiple...gah!).. and who has time for that??! I finished painting these side tables in ONE hour with only two generous coats (which is incredible, given that a darker colour takes more coats of paint, hence more time) and including DRYING time. Can I get an amen! That is not something I have come across before when working with chalk paint from the stores. Country Chic Paint.. Im keepin' ya!
The smell
I talked about this on my insta-stories on Sunday (come check out more fun HERE) - I am incredibly sensitive to the smell of paint. Given that we had winter like temperatures when I was doing this project and it was all done inside the bedroom, I was extremely concerned about the smell of paint lingering and giving me a ginormous headache. Ummm... but there was no smell! After the clean up was finished, you could not have told that a paint project had happened in the space! And this is all because of the zero to ultra-low levels of VOC in Country Chic Home's paint line, that is better for my headaches AND for the environment! I told ya.. they are a keeper!
The price
While I did receive the products for free, the pricing on Country Chic Paint's products is incredibly reasonable for what you are paying for (see above - incredible coverage, NO smell, and a satin smooth finish). And the best part? You are supporting a Canadian company! In addition to neutrals, they also make a wide selection of beautiful colours, in case you are interested! You can check out the full line HERE - I will definitely be shopping here and only here for my next chalk paint project and so should you!
Other products
I also used the paint with their 1.5 inch Oval Paint Brush, which is literally the softest and fullest brush I have ever used- There was no shedding from the brush while I painted, which in the past has been a peeve of mine with brushes sold at the hardware store. Because of its sturdy and plush quality, this brush is a keeper and I kept it clean for future use using the 100% natural Brush soap (vegan, smelt like peppermint.. do I need to say any more!). Lets just say my hands smelt like Christmas while I cleaned my brush!!
I also used the Dark Antiquing Wax that I applied with a small wax brush and buffed it in with a lint free cloth. It gave such a beautiful aged finish to our side tables and added the perfect touch of farmhouse charm that I so love! Also, its made of beeswax and natural products.. meaning NO SMELL! WOOHOO!
Here are the side tables all refreshed as part of our master bedroom refresh that I am working on. Hope you enjoyed this post and you absolutely must check out Country Chic Paint!
There you have it! An honest review of the Country Chic Paint's Furniture and Home Decor Line - All in all, I will definitely be going back to this company and using up the rest of the paint left!
Until next time friends! I am excited to share the rest of the master bedroom refresh with you all soon (once these darn internship applications are in!) and I get to the next DIY on my list. Until then, don't forget to check out my Instagram stories for more behind the scenes (follow me below!).
xoxo
