Summer Home Tour – Front Porch

Seasonal Home Tours

Hello my beautiful friends!

Okay… so I am extremely nervous sharing this post as I am NOT a porch decorator.. I don’t like decorating the outdoors of our home, because my brain just cannot come up with any ideas related to how to decorate the front porch. So, this front porch tour is just as much a surprise to you as it is to me.. because it was not planned AT ALL and just kind of happened. And let me tell you, the only two things I deliberately purchased for this space were the outdoor rug and door mat. Because like I said before, I just don’t know what to put in this space. We have been in this house for 2 years and this is our third summer here, and let me just say I am quite proud of this front porch. Heck, people slow down to look at it when coming to the park across the street.. because its pretty darn good looking in my head 😉

Soo.. its quite a small space! And that definitely has been the challenge in how to get some seating in there, without over crowding the space. I especially wanted seating in here because this is my daughters favourite spot to hang out and even eat dinner in while watching all the older kids play in the park across the street (you can kind of see it through the glare in the front door). So, I tried to use what we have and all the furniture is what we already previously owned from our last home.

The bistro chairs are I want to say over 5 years old and were an an ugly dark colour. I went to town on them with some spray paint and called it a day! Best part is, they have started getting chippy with time/weather/use and I LOVE it! The yellow tables were a clearance find from Real Canadian Superstore, but I have seen similar ones at HomeSense or HomeGoods (for my American friends). I love how the pops of yellow you saw in my Summer Home Tour, naturally carried outside the front doors, to create a cohesive palette – totally unintentional.. don’t you love it when that happens!

On the other side, I wanted to create more seating but I also didn’t have more chairs lying around to spray paint. I did have a vintage school desk I had gotten last fall that was collecting dust in my very own antique shop (read as garage). So I pulled out the seat from the desk combo and called it a quick win!

This old school desk is my favourite, because its actually from a school just around us and has the original engravings in the desk part (not pictured here). I don’t love the colour, but I will keep it as is for now because I don’t want to loose the original engravings on the paint.

Also how lovely is this hand made sign by Alese at 2 Crafty 4 My Skirt – I think it added the perfect touch of farmhouse to this space to make our guests feel welcome.

Okay.. now for my favourite part! This old baby bassinet was a TWO dollar find at an estate sale last summer! And I knew I would use it for a planter someday.. but you know I am not handy with tools. So one weekend when I was visiting my mom, my sweet husband turned this into a planter for me and went and made this beautiful flower arrangement in it.

He also planted a white dalmation fox glove plant by the front, which I have named Darcy, because he thought its characteristics reminded him of me. No I am not a dalmation or white 😉 But rather, the plant is noted for its resilience in surviving against wild animals and harsh weathers. And if you follow me on Instagram  , you will know that we are going through a particularly harsh season of our lives. So Darcy, the foxglove, was a complete welcome and has stolen my heart.

And there you have it, my very first porch tour! If you followed along on Instagram stories, you saw what it looked like before! Come follow me on Instagram for some fun projects and allllll the cray! Also drop by on Pinterest and Facebook and don’t be shy, because I would love for us to be friends 🙂 Just don’t mind the cray 😉

Love,

Areeba

[…] Second: What can I pair it with in ANOTHER season, such as winter, to create a different look? Does it pair well with other neutrals or colours? So lets take the example of eucalyptus stems – I got mine from Ikea (another great source for seasonal fall foliage!). You can pair eucalyptus stems with bright red apples to crate a beautiful fall table scape. You can pair them with pine cones, white candles, birch or wood for a warm and inviting winter vignette. You get my gist? the possibilities are endless! I even styled them in the spring/summer as seen on my Porch Tour […]
